Chemotherapy

Ihtishaam Qazi, M.D.
In October 2013, Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital was able to re-establish a chemotherapy department in a renovated area on the Hospital's first floor. The department offers convenient parking and easy access for our chemotherapy patients. The Hospital was delighted to provide this life-saving service for local residents who could receive their treatments close to home instead of traveling extensively for treatment. The Chemotherapy/Infusion Center provides six patient areas and two private rooms.

The Center offers chemotherapy treatments for a range of cancers including prostate, lung, colon, bone, ovarian, breast, lymphoma, and leukemia. Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital has an on-site pharmacy which means that a patient can be seen by the physician, undergo his/her lab study, and receive treatment all in the same day. The comfort of our patient is our top priority.

In 2014, the Theresa Snaith Hospital Auxiliary created a peaceful sitting garden adjacent to the department especially for patients and family members.

Treatment Options
There are three main treatments for most cancers: surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Your treatment program could include one of these, a combination of two, or all three. This will be determined by your doctor and you (including input from your family and/or caregivers if you choose to include them.)

We are ever-mindful that successful cancer treatment can also involve emotional support and financial support. Ours is a multidisciplinary team approach to treating cancer, and you can rely on your healthcare team to treat YOU, our patient, and not just your illness.

Surgery
Our experienced surgeons and oncologists have performed thousands of procedures..

Your particular surgery will depend on a number of factors, including your cancer diagnosis, and the size and location of the tumor.

To learn more about surgery at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, read How To Prepare for Surgery information.

Chemotherapy/Infusion
Infusion therapy includes the administration if intravenous (IV) medication (chemotherapy) and/ or intravenous fluid and/or blood products as ordered by your physician. Chemotherapy drugs are prepared by our pharmacists, specifically for each individual patient. The drugs travel through the body to attack cancer cells wherever they are.

Our out-patient infusion center has been uniquely designed to provide a safe and comfortable setting for our chemotherapy patients.

Family, members or caregivers are always welcome to accompany you to your treatment.
Chemotherapy drugs are administered by a staff of registered nurses who have all been specially    trained and certified for this type of therapy. You'll find them to be a wealth of knowledge about    cancer treatment, and they're always happy to answer your questions.
We are especially proud of the low turn-over among our staff. You'll see many of the same faces    when you visit. This is the foundation of the family atmosphere for which we are known.
